My fiance and I bought a house last year, with both of our names on the mortgage and title. We pay the mortgage/property taxes out of a joint account that is only used for housing expenses. Obviously, we would like to deduct the interest expense for taxes this year. The mortgage company only sent us one tax form with the total mortgage interest paid. When filing our taxes what are our options for deducting the interest since we cannot file jointly? Can I take the entire deduction or does it have to be split 50:50. If it has to be split 50:50, does the mortgage company need to send us two forms with the mortgage interest split in two or can we just divide it ourselves?

I was curious if this is unusual: My origional mortage payment was about 986/mo. After about 5 months the payment dropped to 844/mo. As I figured this drop was due to a reduction in my home's value as the difference was in the escrow portion to cover county property taxes - yay for me. Interestingly, after another 15 months, my payment has jumped back up to 986/mo to cover an increase in property taxes. Could they have changed their mind on my home's value? Thrown out an assessment? (the number reverted back to within a dollar of the original amount) Was I lucky and they were wrong for over a year on my payment? Or should I suspect an error that I need to have corrected?

i sold my house 9/06 to my boyfriend at that time. he lost his job and fell short on the payments, since then he owned another home and did a "short sale", he paid his first off, but not the second. 2 months ago the 2nd lender (citifinancial) gave him a "special circumstance" approval to wrap the loan around the property i sold him. on monday april 9, 2006 day before the house taxes were due, he asked me (now ex-boyfriend) if i wanted the house back, he "grant deeded" the home back to me 100% and was recorded the same day. my question is, i paid the taxes, however im a bit nervous about the closing of the second. citifinancial did obtain title insurance 2 months ago, however they are not aware of the change of title "grant deed", am i going to be responsible for the loan? My name is not on the loan at all, only the 1st. i feel like he did this to get out of paying the 2nd completely. we are in california
